I took Dr. Gortons honors biology course, it was very difficult at first. Some tips to succeed are: -Don’t procrastinate on the practice work it really help you review and study -take notes and make sure they’re clear and organized because you will need to know details. -the class isn’t only memorization it’s actually mostly application. so you really have to know the material because you’ll have to explain it. -Tests are scary. You’ll probably do bad ok the first one because it’s a change especially if you’re a freshman taking honors bio. Be patient with yourself

Forensics is a fun and easy class. He give a lot of assignments, but they're not hard at all. Just hand them in. Labs are easy and interesting. It is a new class (as of 2022), so have patience. There are few quizzes, and they're all easy multiple choice questions - just pay attention and do the worksheets/ actively participate in labs. Very very basic math involved in the class.

Stats: I know the suggested practice questions aren't graded - DO THEM. For the final project, give yourself time to write the paper, and follow the rubric closely.

For stats: if you're not a math person, don't fear - Mrs. Kap is very clear in her explanations, and provides helpful practice sheets/formative tests. Don't underestimate the complexity of stats - a lot of the language is similar, and it is critical that you actively work to remember the differences between certain formulas and vocab; take good notes, she gives you a lot of time to take notes so use it. Suggested practice questions in the text book are provided for every lesson - these aren't required, but I HIGHLY recommend you do them consistently, they're seriously helpful. For the final project: it seems daunting, but it is one of the easiest papers you will ever write as long as you follow the rubric and give yourself time. Also, be smart about your topic selection and data collection method. It's okay if there ends up being issues with the validity of your data, you just need to be able to explain those problems elaborately and clearly. Overall: don't procrastinate, and be clear and detailed in short answer questions and in your final research paper.

As with all writing-intensive classes, you want to give yourself time to work on your assignments. Put genuine effort into your essays/articles, and listen to his feedback - although, compared to some of my other English teachers, he's a bit generous with the grades. And he's super lenient with deadlines, so it's extremely tempting to procrastinate - don't do it.

Stay on top of your work and pay attention to lectures. He puts effort into those slide shows, so take notes. He prepares lots of different kinds of in-class activities and projects, so be attentive and participate.

Do NOT blame Mrs. Niemiec for the heavy work load - you signed up for AP Psych, and she wants you to be adequately prepared for an exam that she did not make. She works to make learning psych and preparing for the AP exam fun and engaging for you, but you have to do your part. Participate in class activities, put effort into projects, and study for tests. All the resources are there for you, and she extensively addresses questions before each test so there's really no reason to do poorly in her class.

He has a reputation for grading "harshly", but truthfully his grading is fair. He expects quality, effort, interest, and improvement in his students' writing - if you're lacking in those areas, your grade will reflect that (he primarily teaches upperclassmen, after all). Don't take any of this fore granted: he is doing you a great service, and your writing will improve tremendously if you embrace his methods.

Current issues is a very laid back and easy class, but it is also valuable in gaining a better understanding of the world. The only things you are really graded for are participation (which really just means being attentive and not being annoying), and "position papers" (which should only be a few sentences long, and are graded for completion). It's very easy to get a 100 in this class - just do the little position papers when they're assigned and you'll be fine.

For Geography: study those maps (use Seterra), and hand in your homework. The class is very easy as long as you put in effort. There are some project/presentations you will have to do, but they're very simple.
