READ, READ, READ. Don't let the reading build up, and don't blow it off. Sparks Notes really won't cut it - it's all about the details and your own original ideas. He's a stickler for formatting, so look at the Purdue Owl Writing Lab website for an extensive MLA formatting guide - he'll be very happy. Don't be discouraged by "harsh" feedback and unsatisfying essay grades - embrace his standards and work to exceed them. Trust me, 10th grade English with Mr. Pfister will work wonders for your writing ability.

He's not afraid to give Cs, but TRUST me - he's not working against you. If you're a sophomore, this is probably your first English class that feels this demanding in terms of writing. This is an incredible service to you, because quality writing will be expected of you for the rest of your academic career. Seriously, don't take this class for granted.
