He has a reputation for grading "harshly", but truthfully his grading is fair. He expects quality, effort, interest, and improvement in his students' writing - if you're lacking in those areas, your grade will reflect that (he primarily teaches upperclassmen, after all). Don't take any of this fore granted: he is doing you a great service, and your writing will improve tremendously if you embrace his methods.

He is one of the best teachers you will ever have, and one of the nicest people you will ever meet - he has passion for his subject, he cares about his students' success, he has a bubbly personality, and his classroom environment is comfortable and fun.
