(Spanish 3) Sr. Arevalo is a great teacher and he makes the class fun. The unit will begin with vocabulary and a vocabulary quiz a week later. These quizzes are very hard, because he will describe the word in spanish and you will have to write down the spanish word, so study for the spanish definitions instead of the english ones. There are many projects throughout the course and few tests. The grammar part starts getting difficult in the second semester and you may have to self study here a bit. Other than that the class is pretty chill.

Birdsong Sensei talks almost entirely in japanese (at least for japanese 2). Sit next to someone who atleast has some expirience in japanese or has seen the kanji before. I sucked at the class and only got through because someone explained to me what she said. Don't get me wrong tho, she's a very nice teacher.

(Freshman Lit/Writ): There are no actual final test, usually it is a video that you pre-record as the final. On formal assignments, make sure to keep looking at the rubric to get a good grade. Usually there are boxes of criteria for an A, B, C, D, etc. with point values of 10, 8. 5, 7, 5. 5, etc. From my experience, you get graded with only one box, no in between! ( so you can't get a 9 - you get either a 10 or 8. 5) so make sure you meet the criteria for the highest box. Hopefully that makes sense and good luck! There are sometimes "races" between table groups for a candy prize, and I recommend looking at the Daily Slides posted on Schoology *every day* before class to 1) get a little preview of the race ;) and 2) to just know the agenda for the day ahead of time.

The best advice for anybody is to do all of the bookwork even though he doesn't collect it. It's immensely helpful in understanding concepts and getting used to problems on the test. 3 Mid-Terms a semester (50%) and one final (30%), tests are worth a majority of this class. Whenever he lectures, go home and re-write lectures and make sure to not fall behind, and you should be fine.

Some of the content he teaches can be unclear, so I recommend asking lots of questions. You can probably google most of the assignments, and you could find a Quizlet or Brainly with the answer. However, I still recommend watching MULTIPLE YOUTUBE VIDEOS on the content since I was very confused for a while (but still ended with a high A). Recommend Amoeba Sisters among others. Just watch as many videos as you need to thoroughly understand the content. Tests are almost always multiple choice and generally not extremely difficult.

- Tests are not just about memorisation. She is testing to make sure you can understand and apply concepts to multiple scenarios/examples. - Make sure you understand the homework concepts thoroughly, as she gives them, as she usually puts warm-up questions related to previously learned concepts the next day. There are usually 5-10 questions, and she cold-calls you. - She checks homework quite thoroughly, so make sure it is good quality work. - Almost all of the material from each unit is covered on the test, so go over all the worksheets (she gives a lot)

(Honors American Lit) This class was a rollercoaster in a good and bad way. Let's start with the quizzes: they are random unless specifically talked about. MEMORIZE THE LITERARY TERMS: one of the hardest quizzes I've ever taken, the average was like 60% (do with that what you will). His in-class essays aren't too bad but he grades them very hard: pay attention in class and note down constant themes. READ THE BOOK: literally, you will not do well if you do not read (he talks about very specific details in his quizzes). He pretty much grades everything extremely hard, it's low-key like a college course. The second semester is more fun than first semester with the Great Gatsby and research project. Don't worry about a B 1st semester; try to aim for an A 2nd semester. The projects are given 1-3 class periods, so try to work as fast as possible. Also, HE DOES NOT ROUND: An 89. 9 is still a B. Honestly, those were a lot of cons and I hated the class first semester, but it does get better. Lastly, the class covers a lot of topics about racism, sexism, classism, privilege, etc so you will learn a lot about yourself, others and how America came to be. This is a great class to take along with APUSH. Mr. Hinton himself is a great person to talk to. Enjoy the class!

Starting from Chinese 3, it does get a little harder but the class is literally weighted so you get an A. Do your homework (or some of it) and don't bomb quizzes (failing is kind of hard ngl. ) Chinese 3-5 is really easy.

The class is very heavy on work, and be expected to spend some time doing annotations or documents. The grading is also quite strict so don't do homework carelessly as B's and A-'s are quite common. Overall, the class Riley teaches is still World Literature and he makes the class still easy to pass with an A if you put in the work.

For sophomore year lit: Try to get as much writing done during class. My biggest tip is to ask her for feedback after your essay is graded, it'll help you as a writer lots and improve your grade. Also while you're writing in class, I recommend calling her over and asking her to help with your creative decision-making

For APUSH: actually read the content! Highly recommend AMSCO, because the way they write can sometimes be used to answer questions in your essays. Also be familiar with how to write different types of AP FRQ responses: LEQs, SAQs, and DBQs.

The class is pretty easy and chill; just make sure you know everything and review notes before tests and bio checks (quizzes). Also make sure you have a red pen for correcting quizzes otherwise you lose a point.

[I've had her for French 1 and 3! ] Stanwood is probably the nicest teacher I've ever had. She is super receptive to questions, so if you have one, ask it before you fall behind! She will be really nice about it and never make you feel bad, even if she just explained it. Quizlet is a great resource for the vocab/reading sections of tests! Match is great to familiarize yourself with words' meanings and write is great to nail spelling and get tougher practice learning vocab! She often gives supplemental listening practice, so do it if you aren't great at listening! Listening in french takes tons of practice so take whatever opportunities you can. Use class time wisely! If she tells you to do an activity with someone, she probably won't know if you secretly do it in English. But you'll have a tough time with speaking and she doesn't set out a ton of class time for practicing speaking in particular (I should note, it's less tested than other subjects, but hard to do well for native english speakers and necessary if you actually skill in the language! ) Also actually try on your homework! Most of the time, it won't take more than 20-30 minutes, but it's really helpful for learning concepts, especially in French 3, which is a lot more fast paced than previous years. Honestly, it's not super hard to do well in her class. Tests and projects aren't that hard and she offers retakes anyway. She wants you to succeed. In fact, I've never had anything less than a 99% in French before. But if you actually want to be able to speak and understand the language, try your best! It's easy to forget grammar rules and old vocab, so stay engaged!

it's not hard to get an A. do your assignments for very easy points, they are easy and he often gives you more than enough class time to finish. for tests, the questions are literally copied and pasted from the study guide he posts on schoology, so make sure you know everything on there. the day before a test, the class does a kahoot, and those exact questions are also on tests. as long as you review the online study guide & kahoot questions (you honestly don't need to study anything else), you'll do fine

Applied Math - Super easy if you practice regularly and pay attention in class. I took it junior year as a prerequisite for AP Stats because I was planning on doing something outside the STEM field and wanted a math class that would teach me useful things I would need in life. It's just a bunch of basic algebra, trig, and basic statistics. Only things you will use in the real world and will actually be useful. The final project is a personal finance "presentation" where you basically find an apartment to live in. I loved it, it was super useful, and we didn't even have to present to the class, we just showed the teacher our slideshow briefly it was really chill. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a math class that won't weigh too heavily on your schedule and will teach you/reinforce concepts that are genuinely useful.

[For APUSH] When she gives in-class prompts, actually do your best on the assignment. You won't be given too many chances outside of that to practice your APUSH writing skills and they can be very difficult to learn. Cornell notes are good for taking notes in class! It can be hard to remember events just by reading them over again and again. I know this is sort of unrealistic, but try your best to review old material throughout the year. It's really easy to forget events from the first couple of units. I encourage you to use other sources for your Key term IDs! It will take so much less time than reading the textbook, which has tons of extraneous information and explains things in convoluted ways. For multiple choice questions, none of the answers may seems right at first. Do your best to eliminate them one by one and choose the best answer. Remember not to dwell on each question too long. Every test will have MCQs so try your best to get good at them! One other thing I'll say is that Ms. Yee honestly has much higher standards than the AP test graders. It will be very difficult to do well on writing questions, at least at first, but that will help you when the AP test comes around. Her extra credit opportunities are often fun and not too hard, so try to take them when you can in case you don't do well on a test or two!
