Madeleine Stanwood

[I've had her for French 1 and 3! ] Stanwood is probably the nicest teacher I've ever had. She is super receptive to questions, so if you have one, ask it before you fall behind! She will be really nice about it and never make you feel bad, even if she just explained it. Quizlet is a great resource for the vocab/reading sections of tests! Match is great to familiarize yourself with words' meanings and write is great to nail spelling and get tougher practice learning vocab! She often gives supplemental listening practice, so do it if you aren't great at listening! Listening in french takes tons of practice so take whatever opportunities you can. Use class time wisely! If she tells you to do an activity with someone, she probably won't know if you secretly do it in English. But you'll have a tough time with speaking and she doesn't set out a ton of class time for practicing speaking in particular (I should note, it's less tested than other subjects, but hard to do well for native english speakers and necessary if you actually skill in the language! ) Also actually try on your homework! Most of the time, it won't take more than 20-30 minutes, but it's really helpful for learning concepts, especially in French 3, which is a lot more fast paced than previous years. Honestly, it's not super hard to do well in her class. Tests and projects aren't that hard and she offers retakes anyway. She wants you to succeed. In fact, I've never had anything less than a 99% in French before. But if you actually want to be able to speak and understand the language, try your best! It's easy to forget grammar rules and old vocab, so stay engaged!
