This class is challenging, especially for sophomores taking Honors Chemistry for the first time. The teacher holds students to a very serious standard, and because the tests are short, all short answer, and leave little room for error, the class can feel especially stressful.

She doesn't have time to thoroughly read essays, let alone assignments. Save your time on the busy-work she assigns by writing whatever, and then study independently (use online resources, join AP communities, etc. ) to do well on the AP Exam. I've struggled to score well on her essays, despite and meeting with her frequently during office hours. I guess I'd recommend that you prioritize quantity over quality in your essays, a. k. a. more evidence on the paper vs. specific phrasing or flow of argument. For reference: I'm a student that typically likes English and usually scores very well in their English classes. I received a 5 on the AP Lang Exam. I got a B- in Shunkey's class.

The teaching style often feels limited to reading from slides rather than actively explaining the material, which can make the class harder to learn from. Political topics and visible political gear in the classroom also feel unprofessional and unnecessary for the learning environment. On top of that, tests make up such a large percentage of the grade that a few mistakes can have an outsized impact.
