If you are taking Chemistry, or even Honors Chemistry, I got a guide right here for you on how to get an A in this class. I will be doing this by grade category. Homework/Classwork: Basically no required homework is given, but when it is it is worth like 5% of your homework (and even if you turn it in late, you only get a 10% reduction in the grade per day). Just do the homework. This class is meant to prepare you for college, so try to do the worksheets and study ahead for tests. The optional homeworks are the key to getting an A on the tests. Labs: At the beginning of the year, there will be an assignment on how to write labs correctly, which will have some optional components. Do all of them and get exact feedback on what he wants. If you got As on your labs in 8th grade science and in 9th grade bio, just do EXACTLY what you did then and you will likely get 100% (this strategy worked really well for me). The lab days themselves are really fast paced. Usually it will take place during a long/block period, and Mr. Estes will give each person a worksheet or some reading material. At the same time, he will also tell you some important things about how to conduct the lab. Make sure to pay attention, if you don't it could be very bad and you may even have to beg to have extra time to work on the lab during Access/Student Support. Quizzes: There are not very many of these, so they are worth as much as some tests may be worth in your math classes. Study hard for these and make sure to understand the concepts, as conceptual stuff is usually favored for the quizzes. Tests: Each of these are like 15% of your grade, and to make matters worse there are less than 20 questions per test. So you really have to do well here. I recommend studying your in class notes for the concepts and doing practice problems from online and from the worksheets. Make sure to know how to mess with all the given formulas. When you get your tests back, the average for some can be below 70%, so don't freak out too much after getting back your paper. The 2nd semester final will cover 1st and 2nd semester material, so make sure to not blank on the material as soon as you get a grade back (although you likely won't forget too much as you will likely keep using what you learned save for the first unit). Overall, you will learn a lot and have a lot of fun in this class if you don't forget to study smart and do the worksheets.
