Expect very harsh grading. It is almost impossible to get A's on assignments and tests, even if you normally did so in other Honors English classes. To have a chance of doing well on tests and quizzes, read and re-read the material very closely and try to memorize every little detail. No detail is too trivial for you to be tested on. In fact, you should expect that if a detail is included in Cliff's Notes, GradeSaver or some similar site that it won't be on the test. The focus is on minor details that you normally would not pay attention to. You have to force yourself to try to remember them. And if you cannot remember them, you will do very poorly on the tests. Also, if the instructions are to skip a chapter and read a study guide instead, you want to read the chapter anyway, because details from that chapter will still be on the test. The homework load is very heavy. It does not count for a lot of points, but you will need to do well on it to try to make up for the low test and quiz grades. Also, if you think this review sounds too harsh, talk to other students that have taken Mrs. Holmes' classes.
