Read in detail and take notes: quizzes are often pretty specific. Annotation is a lengthy process and really annoying, but you'll get a better grade if you do it. Be prepared for in-class discussions and writing a bunch in pen.

be a good student from the start, don't slack off because she will remember for the rest of the year. ALWAYS be prepared and on time, and try to participate in class discussions, but only in a meaningful way, so if you don't have something groundbreaking to say, you should probably just keep quiet. READ THE BOOKS!!!!! try your very best and even do the optional assignments. NEVER EVER use your phone in class. use her feedback and tips when it comes to essay writing. finally, PLEASE go to her before or after school to get one-on-one feedback on your essay at least once, it will be so so helpful and she will really appreciate it.

Do all of the assigned reading; it will be very important because reading quizzes are very common in her classes. Class discussion is also quite common, so be sure to be involved and participating. If you give Ms. Broad your full attention for the entire class period, you will learn so much.
