The year Mr. Brown taught me he taught me Precalculus. The class itself is paced weirdly since sometimes topics that don't need much "thinking" and are easy to grasp when you do reach that math level are covered for a longer period of time while topics that are tougher and need more explanation on (as well as being crucial for AP Calc AB if you plan to take it), like trig identities, are not covered for a long time. Expect to take notes, but they aren't graded unless he explicitly states it. I recommend taking notes on units that you personally think are tough, and the other ones you can just sit through. In my year there were no in class assignments and he always let us take stuff home for projects, notes, and stuff. The tests will never be open note, but he always finds a way to provide you a second opportunity on a math unit if you did badly in one. My year he was really wishy washy and called us his "lab rat" year where he tested out different techniques to give us a second chance to prove high proficiency in a math unit (it drove me nuts but it motivated me to study hard so I wouldn't have to deal with that crap). He either makes you take a second test that you can score up to a 3 on, provides a whole class mandatory project in groups of 2 to 3, or makes you take Cornell notes and turn those into him. The class has you memorize some tough formulas (if you understand it though you don't really need to memorize them) and he almost always provides the formulas for you on the whiteboard or on the test. He should explicitly state the formulas he won't provide you, and then you should go crack down on those.

-The tests are essentially 99% of your grade -Not all material will be covered in class for the AP Exam -Material will be taught not part of the AB Calculus curriculum -Projects will require heavy work but will not be a big part of your grade -

Health with Ms. Campbell is amazing! She knows exactly what she's doing. Projects are fun and lessons are very exciting to listen to, especially if you have friends in the class. She uses a variety of strategies and gives plenty of opportunities to do well. There's really only one test so for those of you who don't like tests, this class would definitely be for you. Would definitely retake if I could. Be sure to do your work though. A lot of people don't do as well because they think Health is an easy "A" and decide to skip or not turn in assignments. No amount of opportunities in a semester are gonna save you from multiple 1s coming your way for not doing work.

Health 2 was great! Had it during CDL though so it was probably a bit more lax than it normally is. Delaney was a great teacher.

If you take Web Design with Guthrie, you’re mainly working at your own pace, so just keep up with the due dates (which are just suggestions, you’ll get full credit as long as things are turned in by the end of the semester)

Kinzler does a very good job of setting students up for success. Make sure to do all the work he assigns in class and out of class. Flashcards are also helpful for memorization.

Lockhart goes through everything that is needed to be successful in his class. His APES class is very fun and pretty easy since he breaks down everything important into manageable chunks that can be easily understood.

I took American Studies with Mr. Neidig. It wasn’t a hard class but it was rather boring. We did Cornell Notes and slideshows everyday. And it was almost 100% teacher lead with very little diversity in teaching styles.

If you don’t understand anything and don’t ask questions, you’ll fall into the loop of not understanding anything in this course. Also, be prepared to do a good amount of homework.

I had Lit and Comp 10 with Mr. Wilkinson, this was a challenging class, and it was taught in a much more advanced setting than Lit and Comp 9. Due dates were ridged and work was graded very critically. We had times we could goof off and times we couldn’t and I really appreciated how separate those two were. And how it never seemed to get to out of control. I liked the structure of the class and how time was never wasted but I also never felt rushed. The books we read were actually interesting and we always got to choose what our essays would be about. Phones were absolutely not permitted but this really helped students get to know one another a lot better. This was one of my favorite classes, but I can see why others might not like it as much.
