Just turn the assignments in. She never gives tests, gives you unlimited retakes, literally offers to give you one-on-one tutoring zoom calls at 6am on a Sunday if that's what it takes to bring up your grade. One of the kindest people I have ever met. Only thing you have to memorize is hiragana, katakana, and your name, which is tested every quarter. The quilts she provides really help.

She is extremely passionate about what she teaches and offers a lot of fun extra-credit opportunities like making origami, meeting Japanese students, eating at Japanese restaurants, entering Japanese quiz bowls, learning Japanese drumming, etc. While the Japanese language is must harder than learning French/Spanish, she is SUCH an easy teacher this is a better class to take. Very small class sizes, no on demand essays, almost no tests, I'd highly recommend and it's so much fun,
