Do the homework, be prepared in class, review stuff at home. Mr. Unruh's an EXCELLENT teacher but he loves his tangents, which can last anywhere from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. Participation, which is 15% of the grade (in AP Latin, that is), is absolutely guaranteed because of his cold-calling system. Given that you do your homework (which is also 15% of your grade), that means doing your homework everyday guarantees a 100 in 30% of your grade, with the added advantage of also helping you with tests (70%) and the AP itself.
