What advice would you give yourself if you were just starting the class now?

Take good notes about what he teaches in class, and engage during the review sessions (they're usually fun and competitive, so this shouldn't be hard). If possible, review the homework and your corrections before every quiz/test and you should be good. disclaimer: I am speaking from a pre-coronavirus perspective (class of 2019), so this advice might be null nowadays.

I took him for APUSH. Honestly, Grimes was my favorite teacher. I know he was a controversial figure, and likely still is, but he was always really kind and accommodating with me. There was a point senior year where I had a little bit of a mental breakdown during one of my classes, and the teacher promptly sent me on walk to go see him. We had a good student-teacher friendship and I'll always remember him for the kindness he showed me when I needed it.
