beware of his signature "cmon guys" once you hear it you know you've crossed the line, stand down or else you will have to face his unseen wrath. also beware of his scriputres, they are undecipherable to the common eye and if you do not posses the mental fortitude to gaze upon his written works, you might suffer sever mental damage. Otherwise he is very kind and if you exceed his expectations he might even reward you with a "nice job on this"

I would definitely tell them that paying attention and writing are always important in English. Make sure you understand don't be scared to ask for help with anything.

Memorize literally everything. even the most obscure seeming parts/quotes of plays and stories. get used to him throwing novels at you randomly and complaining about how he hates teaching. if you have him for AP he grades papers on the AP essay grading scale (out of 9) and equates them to number grades, rarely gives over a C+ which he considers "splendidly mediocre".
