Class of 2020
Shepard's classes are an experience, and it's really useful to have taken a class with him before when going into a difficult class because his system is very unique. I took American History, Economics, and Civics in that order and Econ was by far my favorite. Each class has its own personality because the content obviously differs, but I would say the last two classes were significantly easier after taking history with Shepard. The tests are really hard and so are the papers, he definitely has his own style that he prefers and rarely gives out perfect grades. The advice that I would give for tests is to study your weekly quizzes really hard because quiz questions will always make up at least a third of the tests and probably help you with other questions. He's also really into dates, so make flashcards for dates because that will also make up a lot of tests and quizzes and can give you a safety net. His lectures have a really stream-of-consciousness style so your notes are probably going to be kinda scattered, sorry to those people who pride themselves on their instagram notes.

Shepard is one of my favorite teachers so my opinion may be biased. He is probably one of the most college-like teachers in that his style and class ~vibe~ feels like a college professor. You can definitely joke around with him and also have your laptop out or whatever as long as he also thinks that you're paying attention to the material. Also, be sure to ask him questions about the stuff that confuses you because he's so specific!
