Honestly just read through the chapter and get started on the notes even before he assigns them because he'll spring it on you last minute and give you like, two days.

Time in class is about using the reading/knowledge, or going more in-depth on something you can really get on your own. So you really have to do the homework to be able to participate in class. Many of the assessments are based on skills, so if you are a weaker writer or reader you will have to invest more time, but you can always ask for help and you can get it. Class discussions are very intelligent and makes you think deeply in new ways. An excellent class.

Read the textbook and do the homework and the tests and quizzes will be easy for you. If you choose not to read, review heavily before quizzes, but especially tests because they are much harder than quizzes considering you do not read. He allows quiz corrections for half credit which could not be easier.

You're mostly on your own in this class and you can really struggle if you aren't much of a language learner. It's useful to have a handful of acquaintances to discuss material with and work with during group activities. It's important to put at least some modicum of effort into this, as it can really help you get ahead.
