I had Mrs. Alder for AP European History. Most of the class time is spent on writing notes from slide lectures. The class goes quickly and there is a lot of information to take in. The lectures do NOT give you enough time to write everything on the slide, so pick and choose the information you write down carefully. Although it is important to know the information on the slides and from the textbook, the multiple choice questions are more critical thinking, but you do need some background to understand the questions so STUDY UP! For the short answer question, or SAQ, it is important to know the background and understand the timeframe. The study guide is good to review for the test and to refresh yourself on the background. You will practice the DBQ questions throughout the year, but it won't really be on any tests until the end really. There will be days that you just sit there and look through documents and sort of analyze them, their history, audience, purpose and that type of stuff. They may be boring, but it will ultimately help you with the DBQ, so it is a good idea to try on them. The projects are where I found the most fun and sometimes I learned a lot from the projects. Overall, this is a great class, but understand that getting an A in this class requires that you study and understand the material and have great analytic skill. Good luck and have fun studying European History!
