Alex Carrozza

Though this year was his first year and virtual year of teaching high school, Mr. Carrozza did a very good job teaching the material. Throughout the year, Mr. Carrozza was really patient in answering anybody's inquiry even if he had to repeat himself multiple times. And when he assigned individual assignments he was very willing to help people with personal issues. There are very quizzes and when we do have tests it's everything that has been covered in class. The material itself is kind of hard if you're not interested or if you tend to forget certain coding lingo, but overall Mr. Carrozza made it easier for those who didn't understand.

I have nothing but positive things to say about the class and the teacher. The class itself is straightforward and easy to receive an A in if you put in the required effort. There are units that follow the online textbook and AP guidelines almost exactly, so you can be sure that you are learning all of the material necessary. For AP Computer Science A, you do not need any prior coding experience, Mr. Carrozza will lead you through it step by step. If you do not understand a concept, he will do his best and more in order to help you understand the content and material. All the tests were AP questions and in the style of the AP multiple choice section. Mr. Carrozza is very lenient and understanding when it comes to late work and all late work is accepted for full credit. If you want to fully succeed, make sure that you put emphasis on FRQs and writing the code, because tracing is heavily emphasized. However, the writing aspect can be quite difficult for some.

Mr. Carrozza is a great teacher. He provides a variety of useful resources that students can use to further their skills or fill gaps in their knowledge. In this class, there are frequent assignments that consist of completing a section of the textbook but these assignments don't take much time and they're graded on completion. Mr. Carrozza's tests are all multiple choice and have a fair curve. As long as you submit all your assignments and get alright grades on the tests, you should do great in this class.

While I was enrolled in his class during the pandemic, I think it's safe to say that Mr. Carrozza did a very good job of teaching the AP Computer Science class. The workload was relatively light and he spent a majority of the class time reinforcing our understanding of the topics. The tests and homework assignments were pretty easy and were easily manageable. The workload was light enough to allow me to balance the class with other AP and Honors classes. However, the one downside about Mr. Carrozza was that I feel he could have done a better job preparing us for the AP test. Aside from that, Mr. Carrozza is a great teacher and I'd recommend you take his class if you are interested.

Pay attention to what is going on in this class because you can fall behind. This was the first interaction I had with computer science and in the beginning, it was easy to pick up. Carrozza always went step by step through all of the units, making sure we would understand all the information. He is always open to questions during class even after school when questions occur he does his best to answer. The homework load is not bad at all, we would use a site called CSAwesome and some of the questions would provide a brief explanation of what to do. If the explanations were not enough, Carroza provides sites and videos that have a more in-depth explanation of the unit/assignment.
