I had him for AP Lang. Just pay attention in class and it'll be easy. Take notes when he talks about literary devices and poems, and pay attention when he discusses how to write the essays. Since the class is mostly to prep students for the AP exam, the essays are a HUGE part of your grade. I mean everything is worth 2-4 points, and the essays are worth 100. There are a couple tests on books we read worth 35-50 or 60 points, but the essays will carry you if you do well on them.
If you participate he will love you. He is seriously one of the smartest English ever and he has a lot of good insight. Sometimes his tests are kind of obsecre and you have to know specific details. Otherwise, as long as you have evidence in your writing hell like it. Also, he loves talking so hell answers pretty much all questions. It's definitely good to get on his good side because he will grade easier on you.
Let me start off by saying Mr. King is a very hardworking teacher, possibly one of the best I've had in my entire educational career. Take advantage of tutorial (student support) if you're struggling, please. I've gone in there so many times and no one else has ever been there. He's a good teacher, but at the end of the day, it's legitimately the effort you put in to take his feedback and incorporate it into your writing that makes or breaks your grade. That being said, I would recommend getting a tutor who will grade your essays before Mr. King assigns an essay assignment (it's really just a test). While the class is easy, King's a tough grader, so it's hard to score. My best writing advice is: if you think your piece is boring, it probably is; integrate personality into your essays and make it yours.
