Music theory/history tests are few and far between, and are generally intuitive, so it shouldn't be a major stressor. It is always helpful to take private lessons, play in conglomerate bands, and practice outside of band to succeed in class. Aside from the concert music, he'll do some sight reading, scale exercises, and warm up scales, but doesn't teach music theory consistently. Lastly, it doesn't take much effort to get in the advanced level bands, if you have a passion for music it will show in your attitude and your playing!

This is a very fun class! Just try to take private lessons outside of the class to practice it.

Mr. Gallagher is a great music teacher, but also has his flaws. He usually leaves school during lunch or right after lunch, and teaches zero period jazz band, so he is not very accessible in person. He does respond to emails quickly, so I recommend using that medium to communicate with him. The phrase "a chain is only as strong as its weakest link" applies directly to his bands. Your musical experience is what you make of it, so if you practice, listen to music, and bring a positive attitude to class it'll be a much more fun experience. If you are really into music, I strongly recommend you take the initiative to pursue music outside of school, for the bands are a mixed bag when it comes to talent and dedication. Despite some downsides, Gallagher is a kind guy, an experienced teacher, and a very compassionate person! Aragon is lucky to have such a strong music program and teacher.

Mr. Gallagher is a very amazing band teacher! He is also so understanding and caring! Recommend taking this class!
