The previous questions on this site were a little difficult to answer because Coach Camp is a PE/dance instructor so the questions didn't apply as much. However, if I were to give overall advice to future students who want to take her class, I'd say that taking her class is a commitment. Please treat her class the way you would treat other classes. I can't stress that enough. This should go without saying but when I took her class from 2017-2020, many of my peers did not understand this very basic concept. If you guys ever hear the talking point, "it's just dance. It's not as important as the other classes, " PLEASE SHUT THAT DOWN!!!!! That talking point is very disrespectful and degrading towards the teacher working her butt off to make the experience a good one for the kids. I heard people say that time after time and I can't imagine how it must feel for a teacher to hear that. It's simply appalling and unacceptable. A class is a class whether it fits your definition of "academic" or not. With that being said, please wear proper dance attire, take her corrections, practice the choreography at home, and try to cultivate a community there. It will serve you well to do the best you can do in her class.

I graduated SRHS in 2020 so it's been quite some time already. However, taking dance was one of my favorite experiences of all time. Coach Camp is a compassionate, charismatic, fun, knowledgeable, and sensitive teacher. You can take my biased opinion with a grain of salt but what I know to be true is that she does care about the success and happiness of all her students. I remember the dance community being like a family because that's what she tried to create for us. She always treated her students like we were family and she never wanted a single dancer to feel left behind. I have so many memories of her and her class. I remember all the times I laughed in her presence. I remember when she stood up for me in front of the entire class when she noticed that a bunch of kids were making fun of me behind my back. A few weeks later, I approached her and said, "Coach Camp, they're doing it AGAIN! " Her response was one I never forgot. She told me not to let it get to me. She said, "they're just jealous because you're improving and pushing yourself. You took the opportunity to dance with the older girls when it came your way and they can't get over that. " Coach Camp was a role model to not only me but many other students. I do not have much contact with her today but I have not forgotten about our time together. I cherish those days. She was the one who truly instilled perseverance as a core value in life and I use her wisdom in my daily life today. Thank you, Coach Camp, for changing my life for the better. I miss you and I wish you all the best.
