Read the novels. Please. I suggest asking about previous periods about what was covered in class, and asking others who had Hubbard.
Class of 2028
Don't skip because there are a lot of analysis activities in class. when there is going to be a test on a book STUDY. its the small details, like how many people were in XYZ at XYZ time or what color was XYZ. Once you figure it out its easy. 1st semester your almost guaranteed an A if you get 100 precent on the first 2 essays that aren't in class. She WILL give you templates for the essays and paragraphs so make sure to FOLLOW them. Lwky a lot of it is just bsing the analysis in the most concise way possible. Don't reiterate ideas, or make obvious analysis. If you want an A be ready to sacrifice your soul. Honestly tho this class taught me a lot so I'm happy with the teacher and grade I got. lot of memorization for books and stuff. don't bs the reading, actualy read.
Class of 2026
I only got by by congregating with students from other periods and asking what happened in class. She will have "analysis activities" that are timed and very hard and she will not tell you what they are about so be prepared by actually reading the material. They're usually some sort of timed paragraph or like making slides or analyzing quote or something. The first essay you might get a D or even a C if you're lucky, but you can improve by finding someone who got an A and reading their writing and seeing how they wrote. Usually you can get a good grade by shoving in a bunch of various punctuation like semicolons and colons and dashes and having big vocabulary words and overuse transitions.

Make sure to pay attention and answer questions in class. Every bit of your participation will help you get a better impression on the teacher. Read ahead at home, and memorize as much detail as possible in the books you read!
Class of 2025
Use sparknotes for analyses but don't rely on it completely for plot, some questions on the test are on small details. Talk to students from different periods, it'll let you know what to expect. There are pop-quizzes occasionally and very fast in-class assertion writing activities. Do your best to read the book. Lastly, mapping is planning out your essay on the prompt paper :) good luck

I wouldn't say this class helped my writing style by any means, but I got pretty good at timed writing, which was helpful for future english and history classes. I would immediately abandon the writing style that she teaches you afterwards though, it sounds really choppy and transition words do not make good transitions.
