Make sure to pay attention during lectures and write things down from the slides. Even if you slightly don't understand a concept, raise your hand or talk to him during break or lunch. He's a super approachable and great guy and genuinely cares for his students so you shouldn't feel intimated at all by him. The class is challenging, but it's a super rewarding class to do well in. Colomac is easily the best teacher I had at my four years here, so the environment of learning is nice. All you need to succeed in his class is a good amount of effort.

He doesn't put all necessary info for the test on his lectures; the necessary info that he doesn't include on his slides is presented only when as he is commentating so MAKE SURE TO WRITE DOWN HIS WORDS WHEN HE SAYS SOMETHING IMPORTANT or else you will forget it by the end of lecture and surf around on google for a while finding the explanation that takes less than 30 seconds to say out loud. Also, even though he tells his classes at the beginning of the year that he will never put things on the test that he never went over, it isn't totally true. Like, I still remember thinking what the heck is a bucky ball on the IMF test. But I think he does notice those questions on the test and takes them out of the test grade, so it's not terrible. for AP chem he gives you a lot of FRQs for practice which is good but you should practice MCQs as well because just doing FRQs and studying your lecture notes won't prepare you for the MCQ portion. I blanked out on a lot of MCQs on the AP test and I had strong grades in his class (albeit he did inflate grades because the class averages were one of the worst compared to his other years of teaching AP Chem). Go on AP Classroom. Look at the CED on collegeboard. I also recommend fiveable. me (website). and lastly... good luck on acids and bases. LOL

Prepare for a lot of studying. He will provide you with good information about the subject, but not enough to do well on the tests. He only provides you with a handful of examples. If you don't have a knack for chemistry, you definitely need to study a fair amount outside of class for anything above a B-.
