Actually speak Spanish in class. Don't try to get around it, it'll improve your Spanish skills dramatically. No need to stress too hard about IPAs if you participate well. Focus on practicing your grammar skills.

Make sure to spend some time outside of school practicing your Spanish skills. This will help with the classwork and homework. The IPAs are important but the assignments themselves will help boost your grade and are also good preparation.

On top of memorizing vocab and completing assigned work, understanding grammar and basic rules taught in class is essential to succeed. IPA's test you by verbally listening and understanding, reading and answering questions, and engaging in conversation, which is why it's essential to understand the grammar AND vocab.

In general, the class is pretty fun. You'll start to focus more towards writing and impromptu speaking, but you'll definitely get a LOT of practice so don't worry (most are formative early on, and you get eased into it)! In terms of preparation, you definitely should take advantage of the teacher's class materials; while she assigns practice as homework, try to spend a bit of outside time just reviewing Kahoot-vocab. Other than that, just try to speak in Spanish whenever you can. I know it's really hard (I leaned on wordreference/spanishdict to get conjugations), but it helps and is fun in the long run!
