I took two classes with Mr. Evans: English 1 Honors and AP Lit. Initially, I mostly got C's on all of my essays, but then, I began to ask Mr. Evans to proofread my essays, which drastically improved my essay scores (I mostly got A's after that). Definitely ask him for feedback on your essays if you would like to get an A or B in his class. Also, always study for every test; Mr. Evans tells you what to study, so as long as you study what he asks you to study, you should do decently on the exams. Additionally, go out of your way to learn the sentence patterns (if you don't know what sentence patterns are now, you'll know after taking one of Mr. Evan's classes), since they will appear on tests and improve your writing. Also, please read the books; although I know many people who somehow did well in the class by only reading Sparknotes, it's much better to actually read and analyze the novels instead of reading someone else's summary and analysis. For incoming AP Lit students, just know that in class, you will not be taught how to write two of the essay types you need for the AP exam (we only covered FRQ #3). If you would like to take the AP exam (I didn't because I felt very unprepared), practice writing the other two types of essays in your free time. Also, there is a participation grade in Mr. Evan's AP Lit class (I don't know if he added it into his English 1H class), so participate! If not, your grade will most likely suffer.
