For civics, he says you need to do the reading before you come into class, but then he just goes over it in a lecture the next day. I always made C's on the tests but there is a huge curve and in the end I always got over a 100 on the tests.
Film is a hands-on class. The effort you put forth is ultimately more important than your inherent skill.
Take notes in sections. APUSH does not work well for you if you try notes in massive chunks. However, if you're just trying to pass and get a good grade in the class, AP notes is your friend.
Learn as many shortcuts and memory tricks as your brain can hold, it makes it a thousand times easier. However, always learn WHY everything works or you'll be lost when you try to explain chemistry concepts.
just take your notes! so long as you listen in class, the concepts are well-explained and easily memorized if you have them written out.
