Read the books and you’ll get a good grade.

I had his cinema class. We were required to read one short book, then had multiple small quizzes where we were allowed to have the book with us. His essays are written at home and he gives you multiple weeks to send it in. He allows you to use every possible ressource: his only criteria is grammar mistakes. He recommends multiple sources to help you with your writing, such as Antidote or Cleo. Almost every assignment was a given. He even brought popcorn to class. Excellent teacher!

The exams/essays are worth a lot (20-30%) while the practices are worth less than 2%...

I had him for his cinema class. He is a ridiculously harsh grader and is not afraid of giving people a 0%. I had him online and it was asynchronous. It would have been a lot more fun if I didn't have any other courses to worry about at the same time, he put his deadlines at noon and not midnight like most teachers and would accuse students of plagiarising when he answered a question about a film during office hours. He also changed how much each thing was worth multiple times throughout the semester without letting us know beforehand. These changes did not always improve anyone's mark, it often hurt us even more. If you do not have a busy schedule, know every single french grammar rule, and enjoy gory french films (multiple ones where you see people get shot) then this would be the class for you! He is a nice guy but is intimidating and not scared of giving students a final mark that is below a 60.

He's a nice man and teacher. If you take his cinema course you will most likely watch movies every class and then fill out an analysis for the movie. He'll send you to watch several french movies and a play. Not a bad teacher, but a very hard marker. He'll remove up to 40% on exams for grammar and he's not willing to move deadlines. He's also not clear on giving instructions for projects. He really believes the student should be independent and figure it out for themselves. Don't take the class if you can, it gets to be a lot of work outside of classtime.
