Class of 2025
your final grade will be unpredictable, as he grades harshly. you have to participate A LOT. just answering a question simply does not account for participation, you have to give your insight often in order to get a good participation grade so do the readings (also to make sure you pass the quizzes which are also worth a lot). (Had him for Augustan Satire)

very few occasions to get graded, the essays are worth a LOT so make sure to apply yourself on the main essays.

Take notes of what he says when preparing for essays because that's the kind of information he wants in the final essays. The grade you receive is really unpredictable. Make sure you REALLY develop your ideas or he will say it's incomplete. If you have doubts about quizzes, ask them because it has happened a big part of the class didn't know we had one since he had mentioned it fairly quickly. He's not the greatest with technology but is willing to learn. His humming is quite memorable and he's funny.

For ICE, we only had 3 essays and some points for class participation. The workload was easy, but he is a very harsh grader. Important to take notes in class and write what he wants to hear. Very hard to get above 90, the class average was always in the low 60s.
Class of 2021
In my class the essays made up a huge portion of the scheme. Not an easy grader. Class average low, If you read the texts and pay attention to class, you will do well. He goes over every text and tells you along what he looks for in the essay, Bad grade comes if you didn't listen. Not generous but is a fair class, work and you're set.

He is sometimes a bit confused. Very bad with technology, but he is still funny. He sings very well.

Essays are worth the most. Only had one at home, the hardest graded, the others were easier ( I felt). The quizzes are challenging at first so read the texts well before coming into the class. Old school dude, no internet, no Lea, no MIO, only can come see him during office hours, which he has a few times a week. I liked the sick guy, Cheese
