Ms. Ashworth is a good teacher and you can learn a lot in her class, but she marks EXTREMELY HARD!! Be cautious of storytelling and summarizing plot if you are in grade 9... DON'T USE CONJUNCTIONS! Remember to try to ask her for feedback on your drafts, she will be very harsh but it will help a lot and affect your work positively! If you need help, try to ask her during lunches or before school.

If you have this teacher I don't mean to scare you but this will be a hard course. You should be going in class instead of online because the kids that were online got bad marks and the kids that went into class got good marks. You will need to look at the structure of your writing and not focus on the writing. What I mean is focus on what should be included in a essay not what the essay should be about. She is a strict teacher and gives bad grades. The class average was 76%. I would advise that you ask her privately for what you can do to improve and she will help you. The course was a bit boring and the teacher talked for the whole amount of time. If I went back in time I would tell myself to focus on the writing structure and not to stress over the timed writing. Their will also be difficult assignments. We had an assignment where we had to write a whole page in 20 minutes, five minutes to brainstorm and fifteen minutes to write. It may sound easy but if you know it is getting marked and you get a warning ten minuets before writing is really tiring. You just need to breath and relax. Do not stress yourself out or you will do worse. Try to also participate as much as you can. Also, when you use words know when to use them, for example, when I wrote moreover, I would have marks deducted because you write moreover to add to a point not to move on to the next point. An example is if I say " I like the rain. Moreover, I love how bright the sun is" it would be wrong. I should have said "I like the rain. Moreover, how it falls on the lake. The sun... " Do you see what I mean by add to your point? Your writing always must be in font, New Times Roman, size 12, and double spaced. If you ever need her help, do not bother emailing her because she will not respond to emails and if you do let her know in class. I don't mean to scare you, but if you use the tricks above you will be just fine! I believe in you!

Its a tough class but if you get through it and go to her for help on how to improve, your essay writing skills will increase tremendously.

It's difficult to get a high mark on essays and I wouldn't expect anything higher than a 70 at least a first. Hard to get high marks on essays but easier with creative writing.
