Read the books he gives, make notes on them, always pay attention and practice writing for the essays.
Class of 2023
Study, practice, make sure to write frequently and work on grammar and punctuation if you're in his writer's craft class; if you're in his English class then make sure to fill out character sheets etc.

This class is the best you'll ever take (coming from a STEM major) as long as you're willing to participate. Mr. Hodgson is your friend: ask for extensions, ask for help, and tell him if you're struggling. It's a fair amount of work but don't be afraid to joke around with it. You'll get marks for good humor.

Mr. Hodgeson is a great teacher, he is extremely interactive with his lessons and he makes you feel like you want to be in his class even if you do not like english at all. He always answers your questions and explains your mistakes when you ask about them. He is big on participation so do make sure you ask and answer questions. He wants you to learn so just match his energy he'll love you. He also makes learning very fun. I would say he is the best teacher I have had in a while.

This teacher is absolutely amazing, even at the graduation ceremony at least six kids shouted him out, including myself, and recommended that he get a raise for all his hard work. He's a lot of fun and you'll love being in his English class as he acts out the scenes.

He honestly made my gr12 year survivable, and I still use the notes I took in his class on my lab reports and papers. I get compliments for the style all the time. Mr. Hodgson is really funny and teaches in a way that makes 17yos gossip about Shakespeare in the hallway. If you have a complaint he'll take you seriously so don't be afraid to talk to him.
