Doing the homework is probably the best way to do well in his classes. It may be a lot sometimes but the questions cover most of what you learn and if you encounter one you don't get he will be happy to explain how to do it or look through what you did and show you what you did wrong.
Whenever you have him as a teacher, make sure to take notes on the smaller things he mentions. Sometimes he'll mention something important, but not make big enough of a deal of it for you to remember it. And boom, it might spring out at you on a test. Another thing is to talk with others in the class for what you learned that day, as often times someone else (especially a friend who knows you) can explain what was taught better than our teacher.
