Latin is such a fun and interesting course! Listen carefully to the grammar and noun chart information at the beginning of the course so that it makes more sense later on. Always attempt the bonuses on tests, including the date bonus! Participate as much as possible, and translate stories ahead of time if given the option to — it really helps when covering them in class the next day!
Study hard for the tests (they are entirely based on what you’ve learned in class). Mr McLaren is an awesome teacher, you can ask him just about anything concerning the course (and out of it too, he’s a very understanding and supportive teacher) and he’ll give you a really good answer. There are a few worksheets, but the rate isn’t that high and if you study a bit more than usual you can get through more than one of them per class. I’d say background knowledge and a decent (English, but if you’re a native speaker of any Romance language like French or Spanish, that’ll work too) vocabulary, while not required, will get you very far, at least in the beginning. Mr McLaren uses one of the best textbooks ever written and teaches in a very interesting way.
