Class of 2020
Mr. Brentnell teaches almost solely through class discussion, which can make it a little difficult if you miss class. Due to that high volume of class discussion we often end up going off on unrelated topics. It's a very fun class however Mr. Brentnell is a difficult teacher to read, you never know how he'll react to things. The deadlines are flexible as long as you do get the assignment near the deadline. He has a website that always has extra material for you to review or watch and a lot of assignments are on there ahead of time. Because he lets us have a lot of independent work time this class will teach you a ton, but only if you're willing to put in the work. It also gets stressful if you feel you're behind in something so remember it doesn't hurt to work ahead. He's a good teacher, but (like most social teachers) is very opinionated on all subjects.

Mr. Brentnell doesn't have a very good rewrite policy. It makes it very difficult when you are trying to improve your essay writing. Brentnell often just leaves very vague questions and you have to pester him to get a more direct answer on how to improve. That said, he is a really good teacher, he gets very invested in whatever he is talking about and he is so well versed in everything. It is one of few classes where you always leave knowing more than what you did when you went in. He marks fairly, and the more invested you and your class gets in the discussion the more interesting it is. Very interesting person with a lot to teach you if you participate. With this class though, you only get out whatever you put into it. It's a nice change of pace as well because other classes spend so much drill and kill time, but Brentnell lets us learn to make new connections on our own, which improves our understanding of a concept.
