The only memorizing that needs to be done in class is basic building codes, architecture vocabulary, and AutoCAD Drafting Techniques. The bulk of your points will come from the effort you put into your house project, and the vocabulary tests you take. The teacher is extremely forgiving, so there's room for error, so long as effort is demonstrated. DO NOT take advantage of his good will, or you will dig yourself into a C- hole, and he will show absolutely no mercy. If you treat him with basic respect and human decency, he will help you grow, EXTREMELY!

This teacher definitely wants you to learn a skill and succeed. Use his class as relaxing form of artistic expression. Take full advantage of the projects and learning experience. If you ask to learn more, he'll tell you anything you want to know, create a whole knew class and curriculum just for you, and even give you jobs that you can get paid actual money for. Your skills will grow, and you can become professional at what you do.
