Prepare as far ahead of time as possible and always stay on top of your work. The material in this class is either laughably easy or impossibly difficult, so I recommend that as soon as it starts getting difficult and you don’t understand something, try to learn it as quickly as possible. The pace of the class is very fast so if you don’t understand something even a little bit by the next day, you’re screwed because you keep moving off, building off the material you just learned. Thankfully there are plenty of Kahn academy videos that follow the material in the course, so get ready to listen to Sal Kahn’s voice for hours on end if you’re confused,

Overall, and awful teacher. She is undeniably a very nice person, however, niceness isn’t going to get me an A. I understand that the pace of the class is fast but not so fast that you shouldn’t have time to ask a question when she’s teaching. In previous math classes I’ve taken, plenty of people have taken the opportunity to ask questions in class but this year I can’t remember the last time someone asked a question in class because we’re not given the chance to. The way that she teaches is basically just going through premade notes and doing problems except 50% of the time she’s not even actually teaching you how to do the problem and instead she calls on people randomly in class so if you don’t know what you’re doing—have fun! It’s easily one of the worst parts of the class and it doesn’t help anyone learn anything because we’re all so stressed out about being called on (whether we know the answer or not because it’s very easy to get an answer wrong in this class). All it does is cause anxiousness and embarrassment. Not to mention the WORST part of this class: the workload. You might think that your ELA clases have a lot of work and to that I say: buckle your seatbelt. I haven’t had a teacher collect homework since middle school, and the fact that she makes you submit your homework into Schoology is ridiculous. My previous math teachers have all had the same philosophy that you can do the homework if you want and it’s your grade at stake if you don’t. I usually do the homework anyone but I like to do it on my own time and without the stress of there being a due date for it. Not to mention that the worksheets are ridiculously long. The worksheets often don’t leave enough space to write down your answer so often I have to write them down on a separate sheet of paper and last week I successfully filled out more than 25 pages worth of homework. Also, the formatting of all the notes is very weird and are usually PowerPoint slides so you can’t print them out (unless you want 11 pages of notes per day with one problem in size 40 font per page) and will have to take notes by hand, which makes it even more difficult to pay attention to what she’s actually saying because you’re so busy just trying to write as fast as possible. She offers some extra credit opportunities but they’re not significant enough to make a substantial dent in a bad grade so if you fail a test it will be very hard to raise your grade to an A. I’ve expressed some of my grievances to her and unsurprisingly everything has stayed the same so don’t even bother. All I have to say is that this teacher should not be teaching this class.
