For this class, I would say to stay on top of your stuff. Once you miss a homework it begins to pile up. It's really not worth a low grade when the homework is 99. 9% of the time from the textbook and the answers and bolded in the readings. History will always be boring but least you could do is to do your part to not get a low grade.
