Mr. Appel's classes are usually pretty fast paced and cover a lot of information so make sure that you take notes and know the material if you want to do well in his class. There is a lot of class discussion so it's important that you understand the topics (either from the homework he assigns or class notes) so you what to say during discussions/debates. Class participation is an important aspect of your grade. also DO NOT wait last minute to do FRQ's and map quizzes because if you do bad your grade will suffer. You have unlimited chances to take FRQ's and map quizzes so if you don't do well you can retake them as many times as you want. Another thing is to make sure you're well versed and prepared for all of the tests. Mr. Appel really only puts in 5-8 grades for the ENTIRE quarter and those grades are major (tests, class participation, effort & accountability, and map quizzes). So if you get a bad grade on a test you barely have any chances to bring your grade back up... Honestly you spend more time studying the material than you do actually learning it

I took Cass Chem Honors a few years ago... Good luck, your hand will fall off before you finish writing the notes. Tests are extremely hard, and passing the class with an A will require a miracle by god himself

Essays are a huge part of your grade, but as long as you do good on the vocab tests/short essays, it's a fairly easy A-.

English 10 CP 2020-2021 student here. In the beginning of the year we did some reading check quizzes for To Kill A Mockingbird and most people failed so she just stopped doing them. Due to the pandemic we didn’t do any quizzes or tests so I don’t know how she does those. Shes super chill and very helpful. She put me in English 11 Honors for the next year but I felt underprepared because of how easy she was on us. I’m genuinely scared for Eng 11 H because of the and thats why I rated the class as below avg. Your essays are the most important in this class because everything else was participation (prolly cuz of covid). She will be glad to help you with ur writing during period 9 and even gave me an extension on an essay cuz i went twice. The class is easy as long as u pay attention. Also write down quotes in ur notebook for the literary essay u will be doing for each book, you’ll thank me later. GL besties.

2020-2021 Computer Programming Honors student here. I rated my experience as poor because i hate programming. If u like programming, you’ll like this class and pass with A+. Tests are all multiple choice and straight out of the textbook. He’s really nice and helpful. Idk about his period 9 but during covid times he didn’t host a period 9 meeting. Ask questions, read the book, quizlet is ur friend for codelabs.

For American Studies, some of her tests are just a shot in the dark. She wants you to remember exact numbers that she herself has possibly mistaught you, she'll ask crazy questions about people brought up once, so don't spend too much time worrying about those. They're always only 10% of your grade. The most important is filling out your journals with a bunch of quotes, but DONT!!!!! use too much color. Her elderly eyes quake at the sight of color coded sentences, especially the color red, and she will blame that on you. If you want to have an easy time with an essay, argue the point she agrees with, otherwise you will be graded harshly.

AP 1: Make that you understand each concept so you can apply that information to different problems; memorization will only get you so far. Would be a good idea to at least familiarize yourself with test format (AP ppl) because the questions mimic those that you will find on the actual exam. Def go back & do the past exam questions at some point throughout the year. If you have any questions, he is almost always available during p9. The MIT Review book + Giancoli 7th edition were pretty solid for extra practice. All tests are accumulative, which were usually 50% new & 50% old. Wiring is the most important part of the house project (final), but still make sure to decorate and hide wiring for max credit. Also don't skip the hw bc they should be free points & most of the time they should not take long

2020-21 Drivers Ed student here. this class is really easy just do a practice test for like 20 to 30 minutes a week and you’ll do just fine. Allison is really really nice, please be nice to her. She always jokes around, and the classes slow paced so you do not need to stress about this at all.

Make sure that you find good places on the internet to learn because you will have to teach yourself in this class. Teaching that takes place during class is extremely limited so the onus is on you to get ready for the tests. Often assignments will be graded as 100s even if they were never completed so don’t sweat that too much. He is very forgiving with late assignments too so make sure you make up any work that he does grade as 0. If you want an easy A in physics take this class, if you want to learn take a different one.

US I H 2020-21 student here. Caitlin will be your favorite teacher most days if u like history, but sometimes the class is a pain in the butt, especially the mock trials. Be prepared for the mock trails, there’s only two. I enjoyed the class, but you need to pay attention because the slides have a lot of irrelevant information, so you can’t depend on them or you’ll be overwhelmed when studying. Also if you do a group project and one person is not doing any work tell her, don’t sacrifice your mental health so some dumbo can get a good grade. Overall she’s kinda chill and a history geek. Our tests & quizzes were open note because of the pandemic, but in a regular year, they would be difficult. It’s really hard to get on her bad side, so if you did that’s embarrassing.

2020-2021 French III H student here. You’re learning a whole new language so it will have a lot of memorization. You’ll need to remind her to post things from time to time. We never really took any notes so you need to do that on your own time, it might’ve just been because of the pandemic. The class is quite slow paced. I just practice practice practice especially with vocab and you’ll be good.

2019-2020 english 9 CP student here. Be prepared for quizzes and tests by annotating your books well. Go through them before class to brush up. This class was difficult even tho it was CP, but its probably cuz I’ve always been bad at english. He will help you write your essays and give good feedback so pay attention. Although english is one of my least favorite subjects, his class was my most favorite in freshman year.

Make sure you can solve every question on the notes packets. If you think it won't be on the quiz, it will be. If you want a recommendation, buy him amazon gift card. Talk about reddit with him. Notes 13 isn't online, so you have to tryhard when taking notes. Get a 5 on the ap exam or else he will ignore you. Don't ask him if he likes kids (he doesn't).
