Class of 2020
I had Ms. Locke for both AP Calc AB and AP Calc BC. If you are taking AB, you will enjoy it. If you like math, it is a good introduction to calculus. It takes a very long time to get to the real material, since Ms. Locke spends months laying the groundwork for the actual calculus she teaches. I recommend taking AP Physics C at the same time if you can, so that you can learn the basics of calculus more quickly and see the applications of it. BC as a class is not nearly as enjoyable. The material is not horribly difficult, but the way that it is presented make it harder. Most days Ms. Locke will give you a worksheet or packet, and you will work on that the entire class. As a consequence, you will likely have no idea where any other table group is in the material, which can be frustrating. The table groups themselves are also organized by test score, which unnecessarily stratifies and divides the class. You will probably be with the same group of people the entire semester. The material on the tests may or may not have been covered in class, so be prepared to do a lot of corrections. The way corrections are graded does not work in your favor, since Ms. Locke does not give back points on a problem unless you did it her exact way. Thus, you will have to labor painfully to get a good grade. Fortunately, Ms. Locke asks you to do a self-evaluation at the end of every quarter, so you can ask for the grade you want, and she will probably give it to you.
