Very hands on, and a deep understanding of material is required to excel. Lab notebook documentation is important, and should be done right all the time. There is no reason to get points taken off for something that easy. An amazing class! I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys hands on work and likes science.

The biggest thing that has stuck out to me about Ms. Laporte is how much she truly cares about students. I came from a shop where I often felt like none of the teachers cared, and I was always treated really badly even though I gave it everything I had. I have never once felt like this in biotech. They welcomed me in with open arms, and everything changed for me. I am challenged, but never find myself frustrated because she always makes sure that even when a topic is difficult, she explains it so that everyone can understand. At one point, I did something that was a bit immature (although I didn’t really have a choice). She asked to talk to me after class. I was so sure that I was going to be in trouble. When she did have the conversation with me she wasn’t mad, she didn’t yell. I’m pretty sure most teachers would have been mad, but she wasn’t. She was just concerned with trying to make the situation better. When I am in shop I feel like I am at home. I wouldn’t change a thing, and the teachers there have helped to create that environment.
