There are weekly textbook quizzes on Mondays that are completely open response. There are approximately 4 words that you must define and give context to. You do not need to know everything in the chapters; just the bolded key words/phrases. You can skim the chapters for these words. A lot of the content in the class is intuitive. You can usually accomplish the daily assignments without knowing all of the content. However, some assignments are not very straightforward; if you ask clarifying questions, you’ll be given as much help as you need. Occasionally documentaries and videos will be played during class or assigned for homework. Sometimes your notes are collected, but usually they aren’t. You don’t always need to watch the videos; you just need to know the general ideas in them.

A big focus of the class is sustainability. Adopting sustainability attitudes for the class will help you succeed, as it will make you more interested and show the teacher that you care about the class. Avoid bringing too much waste and single use containers into the classroom; in this class, it reflects poorly on you. Be prepared to take outside excursions to nearby parks and such. The trips usually happen regardless of the weather, so make sure to dress appropriately. This class is much more enjoyable for people who like being outdoors and people who love biology. I personally didn’t care to study different tree leaves and species, so I did not enjoy this class as much as others.
