Focus on ideas and lessons in history rather than dates and details. This class pushes you to dig deeper and explore themes that repeat throughout history and learn about human nature and society.

It helps to memorize the themes, and also to really get involved in the class, to the point where you at least hold interest in it. The flexibility of assignments allows you to be creative, so make the class your own and you will do very well.

Mr. Kannan is one of, if not the best teacher I've had at this point. He has a high standard for the work that gets done in the class, while also maintaining a deep understanding and level of empathy for the students, and the workload is never too hard. He has managed to foster a community from a classroom, and his way of teaching, as well as the material he teaches, is unique in it's approach. His themes for all the courses help students to develope critical thinking skills by guiding them to make connections between different relevant mediums, be that historical readings, films, photos, or artwork. Essentially, if you get Mr. Kannan, you are very lucky.
