For Academy freshmen English, in-class essays are very formulaic. Follow CERC exactly as he says and you'll get an A. (During conferences, he'd show other students' writing that he considered good and they were very "fill-in-in-blank" with what he'd outlined in class, so focus more on that rather than on flow. )

For freshmen in Academy, he's one of the more understanding English teachers in academy so enjoy it while you're there.
