When asking questions, especially about your grade, be REALLY specific about them. Not just, "why did I receive this grade? " but something more like "how could I have elaborated more on this paragraph? " or "I think I could have done better on ______, by doing ____________, but I'd like to know what you think. " It's tedious, but great if you "reflect" on your work first. She'll give you a much more helpful answer then.
Pearlman might be a tough grader, but if you stay on top of it, focus, and ask for help when you need it, you should be fine. Meet with her. After school, before school, lunch, tutorial, or otherwise. She loves to help. You also get candy.
