I had Barraza for 12AP, and it’s the best class I’ve ever taken. I would only recommend if you already like English as a subject — if not, I can see how it would be frustrating. But if you are interested in literature, this class is so much fun! It’s mostly just reading the books outside of class, having super interesting and informative discussions during class, and writing essays that are the majority of your grade. Basically no busy work, doesn’t bore you with useless timed writings or reading quizzes, and you read some really incredible literature. Seriously, I’ve always loved to read but this class changed the way I see literature.
Pay attention in class. She covers most of the test material in class, though just accept that you won’t see many hundreds — some questions just come out of nowhere, and not a single person gets them right. If you do all of the class work and homework though, its very easy to get an A. Keep all your work! She often asks you to turn in assignments a week or two after you do them, even a month sometimes. If you show that you are respectful and pay attention, she’s very willing to help you out. Really nice and understanding teacher, and knows a lot about government and history.
