If you are committed to the class you will do great.

I had Barraza for 12AP, and it’s the best class I’ve ever taken. I would only recommend if you already like English as a subject — if not, I can see how it would be frustrating. But if you are interested in literature, this class is so much fun! It’s mostly just reading the books outside of class, having super interesting and informative discussions during class, and writing essays that are the majority of your grade. Basically no busy work, doesn’t bore you with useless timed writings or reading quizzes, and you read some really incredible literature. Seriously, I’ve always loved to read but this class changed the way I see literature.

Pay attention in class. She covers most of the test material in class, though just accept that you won’t see many hundreds — some questions just come out of nowhere, and not a single person gets them right. If you do all of the class work and homework though, its very easy to get an A. Keep all your work! She often asks you to turn in assignments a week or two after you do them, even a month sometimes. If you show that you are respectful and pay attention, she’s very willing to help you out. Really nice and understanding teacher, and knows a lot about government and history.

The quizzes are never harder than the homework. You need to learn all concepts fully because the questions are always free response and you can't get lucky by guessing. Make sure to put your name, date, and period number on every assignment or else you will lose points. Lastly, don't procrastinate. Assignments, warmups, and notes (on occasion) will be due usually the next class.

This class is super easy. Fazio is really helpful and patient when you don’t understand a concept, and we could turn in homework weeks late for full credit. If you put any kind of effort in, you’ll get an A.

Great class. I would not understand why anyone would give a bad review rather than the fact that they're kids who simply cannot stay away from their cellphone, still do not know when and where to put a comma and other basic grammar rules as a sophomore, and cannot be quiet for ten minutes and just listen to clear and simple instructions. An easy class, very approachable teacher and great setting!

Mr. Hobkirk is the most amazing teacher I have ever had. I first met him when I was 14, and he changed my life forever. I never knew exactly how much I loved history, and his lectures gave me a new perspective on my relationships with other people and my role in this big, big world. I LOVED his tea lecture--ask him about it! He has such a kind soul that really radiates through his cold exterior. If you think you HATE history, you should TAKE THIS CLASS!!! My life has been permanently altered. Dear Harvard, you aren't ready for me!
