I took Physics with Mr. A before COVID hit. My experience with this class was great. Although the class is tough, you truly learn a lot about science and about life (Mr. A gives great advice). Participation matters heavily with this class and so do the tests. Memorization, labs, and genuinely understanding the material is important.

I took Math 3 with Mr. Brashear in the summer before COVID. I did not interact with Mr. Brashear much but his class was pretty straightforward. The class moved pretty fast since it was in the summer. It was an average math course and it required memorization of the concepts to do well.

I took IB Art HL with Ms. Tuohy. Ms. Tuohy is truly a caring and kind instructor. She cares about her students and is always willing to help. The class itself is easy but the IB Art HL test itself is tough. If you want to do well on the exam, it requires you to put in outside work yourself on the materials you need to submit for the exam. However, Ms. Tuohy always tries her best to help and is supportive!

I had Mr. Herning for Ethnic Studies and AP World History (in-person). Ethnic Studies and AP World History were both classes that required lots of memorization. Mr. Herning teaches you about how to write and it helped a lot for my IB History classes later on. His classes are definitely tough and you either need to learn the material or fail. Memorization and understanding historical concepts are definitely key.

I had Mr. Johnson for IB History HL 1 my junior year (in-person). Mr. Johnson prepares you to take the IB History HL exam in your senior year. His class is a lot of memorization (multiple choice questions) and requires an understanding of concepts (short answers/essays). His class is tough but it is fair. The finals are curved I believe. It is a class that you need to put in the work though to pass.

I had Ms. Liu for AP Calculus AB and IB Math SL (in-person). Ms. Liu is an amazing, caring, and kind teacher. One of the best teachers at Andrew Hill hands down. She wants to see her students do well and she always spends time with them after school to help. She is probably the best math teacher at Andrew Hill! The two classes I took were tough and required a lot of work, but having Ms. Liu made it bearable and easier.

I took Health Science with Mr. McLane before COVID. His class was pretty average. You needed to put in the work to do well. There was a lot of memorization for the class and it was pretty structured. I did not find the class very interesting but it was doable.

I took Theory of Knowledge (TOK) for IB with Mr. Moradkhan before COVID hit. Mr. Moradkhan is one of the best teachers I have had at Andrew Hill. He cares a lot about his students and you can see that he wants to see them do well. He prepares students to do well on the TOK portion of the IB Diploma and gives great feedback on the TOK presentations. I also had him as my advisor for my TOK essay and I ended up passing and getting the IB Diploma. Definitely would recommend!

Ms. Nguyen was not a great teacher. I had her for precalculus before COVID. She would use class time to talk about herself and things not related to the class. She was not easy to approach and was not very understanding of students. She tended to choose favorites and call on people. If people did not have an answer or were confused, she would make fun of them. The learning environment was not great, which made it hard to do well in the class.

I took Biology with Ms. Ramirez before COVID. The class was alright but Ms. Ramirez had a tendency to pick favorites. It was easier to do well when she picked you as a favorite/talked to her often. The class was a bit harder than it should have been in hindsight. It required quite some memorization and the grading was not always fair. In general, it was an average class.

I took IB History HL with Mr. Schaefer before COVID hit. I really enjoyed the class and Mr. Schaefer was a great teacher! His class is definitely tough but it prepares you for the IB History HL exam. Without his guidance and his help, I would not have scored as well as I did on the IB History HL exam. He really makes you put in the work and he is great at lecturing. Even my friends who disliked history said his class was interesting. You can see that he cares about the IB cohorts and seeing them succeed. Put in the work for the class and you will see the results.

I took IB Biology SL with Mr. Shih before COVID hit. This was one of the first times he was teaching the course and he did a great job! Personally, I did not put in enough work into the class as I should have, but I did pass the IB Biology SL exam. Mr. Shih tries his best to teach the course and the huge amount of information that is needed for the IB Biology SL exam. He is extremely helpful and wants to see his students succeed. Such a kind and caring teacher!

I took IB English HL with Ms. To before COVID hit. The class did not prepare me enough for the IB English HL exam and I had to ask classmates what the other IB English HL teacher was teaching them and try to prepare that way. The class itself is quite easy, but if you want to pass the IB English HL exam, you definitely have to do work on your own. Ms. To is caring and kind though and she also was an IB and Andrew Hill alum.
