Drop the class as soon as you can, take Geometry / Pre-Calculus during the summer or try and rearrange your schedule accordingly because you will come in this class with nothing learned and leave with nothing but your own frustration and confusion. I respect that every teacher has their own way of doing things to make their teaching style unique and creative, yet the flipped classroom work environment he proposes as an effective and efficient way to maximize your understanding of the course does the exact opposite. Homework is assigned and finished by the end of class while the course lessons and teaching take place during your time at home through his website (emathguy. com). These videos are confusing and provide little to no help when trying to comprehend a new formula or equation and when you try to question it; wait you can’t because it’s a video from a couple of years ago that doesn’t help you in any way, shape, or form. And if their’s a slim possibility that he gives a lecture in class and you try to take notes because the videos he recorded years ago don’t help you at all he will yell at you to stop because “you shouldn’t be multitasking in” his “class”. Even after explaining that you are taking note he still states that you are unable to listen and take notes at the same time because that is “multitasking”. Not only is learning the course work hard, but getting the work done at the requested time is even harder. Do to the flipped classroom work environment homework is assigned and finished before the end of class. This idea seems reasonable and a respectful way for students to go home with little to no homework, yet do to the way he implements it causes students to stress as he holds his Evernote quizzes at the same time as he hands out course work it leaves students to be overwhelmed by the amount of work they must finish by the end of the period. Evernote quizzes are randomly given out and submitted by students via the Evernote app. The Evernote app is an application where students can connect with their teacher and submit their work digitally so the teacher can see it. His Evernote quizzes detail a single problem that you not only must solve, but also have written an unnecessarily descriptive reasoning for why and how you got your answer that must be submitted by the end of the period. One of these a day along with the assigned homework would provide enough time for one to complete all of the assigned work, but since he assigns multiple quizzes along with various homework assignments that must be completed by the end of the period causes an overwhelming experience for any student. His tests consist of a reasonable format of answering the questions with the blank space provided, but are strangely divided up by the student being able to do only one page at a time before receiving another page of the test (probably to prevent cheating). My biggest gripe with his class is the music he plays, yes it’s a charming jazz mix, but my problem lies elsewhere with the music he plays in his class. My problem is that he put it on loop. The same five songs looping over and over again for over an hour makes me go insane. Even if you have your own headphones to listen to your music he’ll come over to your desk and state how “You shouldn’t have your phone in class. Please put it away! ”, leaving you in the perilous despair of his repeating tracks till you lose all your very own sanity and ask to use the restroom just to let your brain rest before it implodes. In summary if you like being overworked, stressed, and driven over the edge this is the right teacher for you.
