It’s pronounced: Michael-son The order he teaches the AP curriculum is as follows: First 6ish weeks: RHETORICAL ANALYSIS Next essay: SYNTHESIS Last essay is not taught until February (you’ll have enough time don’t worry): ARGUMENTATIVE Every monday, there would be “MCQ Monday” where you were given a short multiple choice passage to review for the AP exam. the MCQ is NOTORIOUSLY difficult on the exam, so it’s good that he starts you early. And, every day, with the exception of MCQ Monday, we would get a “DAP” (Daily Argumentative Prompt). It would be a quote or something similar and we’d practice responding to the prompt. Additionally, every thursday was a timed write. Yes, you wrote an essay a week. Don’t worry! TW days were my favorite! Being brutally honest, we did not touch our textbook ONCE. that is not an exaggeration. Also, he does not do simple “reading quizzes”, oh heavens no. To ENSURE that you read the book, you have a group discussion everyday on the reading from the previous night. He grades them, don’t worry he will ALWAYS give you a rubric. You also change seats every 2 weeks to get to know your classmates. As for exams, there aren’t too many. Except for (these are just what i remember): 1. Rhetorical Analysis “final” (you get to pick which essay he’ll grade from your 2 last essays) 2. Rhetorical Analysis Term Paper 3. Synthesis “final” (you get to pick which essay he’ll grade from your 2 last essays) 4. Synthesis term paper: you have optimal time and it’s fun! 5. Final- End of Semester: MCQ & synthesis + rhetorical analysis essay 6. Scarlet Letter Midterm: short essay 7. Scarlet letter: TERM PAPER. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. 8. argumentative final? 9. great gatsby Analytic response quiz (AP Lit style prompt, but this is after the AP exam so you’ll be fine) 10. Gatsby final: Same format as response quiz. ORDER OF BOOKS: 1. Scarlet Letter (2nd semester) 2. Hamlet (2nd semester) 3. The Great Gatsby (END of 2nd semester) TECHNOLOGY: - IPADS are allowed! I used mine during the study era before the AP Exam. And, I would annotate the hamlet PDF - You are allowed to listen to music while working independently - bring your computer. Overall: I loved this class. I hated English until AP Lang. I grew the most as a student, as a person. Mr. Michelson is genuinely in my top 3 teachers at LAHS. He cares about his students and truly wants them to succeed. I got a 5 on the exam :)

Everyone needs a Mr. Michelson. Also, you will be writing a lot (duh it’s an AP Lang class). Sometimes it will be more than the other classes, but trust me. it’s WORTH IT. Michelson is the way to go 100%
