When taking any creative writing course from Doctor Tipton, students should be advised against writing about anything personal or remotely vulnerable in any way. This is because Doctor Tipton expects that students' creative writing efforts be shared with the class--whether they like it or not. Doctor Tipton additionally likes to put students on the spot by calling on people. This occurs when he wants people not only to share their creative work, but also comment on the reading in front of the entire class. Although he gives the impression that this process occurs at random, he seems to gravitate towards calling on those who come across as less than focused. I am speaking specifically about those who eat in class, are easily distracted, or come to class without their textbook in hand. Creative writing students should be prepared for a lot of in-class participation to the point where Doctor Tipton openly expresses disdain towards those who do not feel comfortable adding to class discussions.
