Be prepared for source interpretation and analysis. The projects are intense so make sure to split your assignments into daily chunks. There are only two tests, the first being a geography quiz (just memorize all the names and locations) and the second being a combination of a government quiz (matching what the Executive Judicial and Legislative branches do so make sure to read the packet and remember everything because most kids in our class failed) and the interpretation of a Founding Fathers paragraph (so make sure to remember + understand all of the annotations Mrs. Byrne writes). This class is one of the best so make sure to enjoy it along with the analysis of history.

Hansen is actually a really good teacher. She's a nice person and really prepares you for high school. Pay lots of attention in class (Cornell notes!!!!), and don't forget the items you need to bring to class. Tests: memorize which scientists invented what - review things learned every 2 days p.s (there are lots of fun labs!)

This teacher is really nice so academics is really not a problem(though you should still do your homework as it’s a big part of your grade). That last sentence was for math and science or whatever. If you get him for leadership, please be expected to be spoiled.

Make sure you listen to Ms. Sharma very carefully. Her information is very helpful and it will help you in the class. When it comes to poetry, put punctuation. If she says something regarding an assignment, make sure you note it down and follow what she says. If you ever have questions, ask her in a polite tone and you will receive a very helpful answer. As long as you don't mess around in class and talk to other students, you'll be fine.

The categories are weighted citizenship 10%, language 15%, reading 25%, speaking+listening 25%, writing 25%. Certain assignments in categories with fewer points will impact your grade much more, such as speaking and listening. Put a lot of effort into the major writing assignments! It's an opportunity to get extra credit and raise your grade. However, she doesn't grade the same way as many other teachers. Doing all parts of the rubric "on grade level" won't get you full score, you need to go above and beyond in one category to do so. If you do really well, you might get over 100%! Reference the materials that she gives out so you can write your best. Get on her good side if you can, although this applies to most teachers. She's a pretty fair grader, but language arts is subjective so it definitely helps! She might seem a little scary, but ask a lot of questions about things you're not sure about, and you'll get some good feedback. If she assigns something for reading, it's a good bet that there will a reading check or quiz about it. Try to remember the important points from the reading so you can ace the quiz! If you have 4th or 6th period, hop into the library before class to reread the materials and keep the information fresh. Elaborate. A. Lot. Some people might describe it as yapping but Valdez likes thorough explanations in essays (coherence) :). Gets you more points too!

she’s extremely sweet & is very understanding, (and of course teaches well), just don’t goof off or be annoying, basic discipline. other than that, just ask her if you need help or need an extension on work, once again she’s really understanding.
