I do not recommend taking french at all during high school because the teacher does not really have a lesson plan to stick to throughout the year. Over half the material we were supposed to learn was not covered in the class. The teacher was absent the majority of the time. We got random worksheets and practice problems which were not helpful. Overall, we lacked so much of the vocabulary, grammar and culture knowledge that many people barely passed the AP exam.
